Privacy policy

Plume is an iOS keyboard made by START.IT (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what data Plume handles, when, and why. The short version: Plume never logs what you type, and text leaves your device only when you explicitly tap a rewrite action.
What Plume does NOT do
- Plume does not log, store, or transmit your keystrokes.
- Plume does not collect analytics, run trackers, or show ads.
- Plume does not require an account and does not know who you are.
- Plume does not run in the background — all typing features (autocorrect, suggestions, language detection) work entirely on your device.
- Plume cannot be used in password fields: iOS automatically switches to the system keyboard for secure text entry.
When text leaves your device
Only when you tap a rewrite action (a tone, Summarize, or Translate) in the Claude panel, the text currently in the field is sent — over an encrypted connection — for processing by Claude, an AI model by Anthropic:
- Free and Plume Pro: the text is sent through Plume Cloud, our relay server. The relay forwards your text to Anthropic and streams the answer back. It does not store your text, and keeps no logs of content. It temporarily processes your IP address in memory (deleted within a minute) solely to prevent abuse through rate limiting.
- Solo Mode: the text is sent directly from your device to Anthropic using your own API key. Your key is stored only on your device and is sent to no one but Anthropic.
The text you submit is processed by Anthropic as a data processor to generate the rewrite and returned to your keyboard. We do not use it for any other purpose, do not sell it, and do not use it to train models. Anthropic’s handling of API data is described in their Privacy Policy and Commercial Terms; Anthropic does not train on API content by default.
The “Full Access” permission
iOS requires the Allow Full Access permission for any keyboard that uses the network. Plume uses this permission exclusively to reach Claude when you tap a rewrite action, and to sync your own settings between the Plume app and the keyboard. Nothing else.
Data stored on your device
Your preferences (layout, appearance, typing options), your daily rewrite count, your subscription status and — in Solo Mode — your API key are stored locally on your device in the app’s private container. They never leave it.
Purchases
Subscriptions and one-time purchases are processed entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details. Apple’s privacy policy applies to the transaction.

Processing of the text you submit is based on the performance of the service you request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR); rate-limiting on our relay is based on our legitimate interest in preventing abuse (Art. 6(1)(f)).
Because we keep no personal data about you, there is generally nothing for us to access, correct, or delete — but you can exercise your GDPR rights (access, rectification, erasure, objection, portability) or ask any question at francois.rai@gmail.com. You may also lodge a complaint with the CNIL (cnil.fr).
Children
Plume is not directed at children under 13 and processes no personal data that would identify them.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the effective date. Significant changes will be highlighted in the app’s release notes.
