Privacy policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the Shape app (“Shape”, “the app”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), published by Start.it (Startit Agency), handles your information.

We built Shape to be private by design. Your progress photos and measurements stay on your device. The only information that ever leaves your device is anonymous usage analytics, which you can turn off at any time.

In short
  • 📸 Your photos, weights, heights, names and projects are stored only on your device. We never receive, see, or upload them.

Shape lets you create transformation “challenges,” capture progress photos, and tag them with details. The following is stored locally on your device (in the app’s private storage) and is not transmitted to us or any third party:

1. Information stored only on your device

  • Progress photos you take or import.
  • Weight and height values you enter.
  • The names you give yourself, other profiles, and projects.
  • Photo dates and reminder preferences.

We have no access to this information. It remains on your device unless you choose to export or share it (see “Sharing” below). If you delete a photo, project, user, or uninstall the app, the associated local data is removed from your device. This data may be included in your own device backups (e.g. Apple iCloud or Finder/iTunes backups), which are controlled by you and your Apple account — not by us.

2. Device permissions

Shape asks for the following permissions, used only on your device:

  • Camera — to take progress photos. Photos are saved locally.
  • Photo Library — to import existing photos and, if you choose, to save an exported image or video to your library.
  • Notifications — to show the optional local reminder to take a new photo. Reminders are scheduled on your device; no reminder data is sent to us.

You can change or revoke these permissions at any time in your device’s Settings.

3. Analytics we collect

To understand how Shape is used and improve it, we collect anonymous usage analytics using Umami, a privacy-focused, open-source analytics tool that we self-host (at analytics.indoushouxxx.com). Umami is designed to respect privacy:

  • It does not use cookies or any persistent device identifier.
  • It does not track you across other apps or websites.
  • It does not collect or store personal data.

The anonymous data we collect is limited to:

  • Screens viewed in the app and in-app actions (for example: that a photo was added, an export was created, or the reminder was enabled) — as event names only.
  • General technical information: app version, operating system, device type, preferred language, and screen size.
  • A non-identifying, aggregate visitor/session count. Umami derives this from a hash that rotates daily and does not store your IP address or any identifier that persists across days.

We never send your photos, weights, heights, names, project names, or any other personal content to our analytics — only anonymous, non-personal usage events.

Legal basis (GDPR/UK GDPR). Where applicable, we process this anonymous usage data on the basis of our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the app. Because it is anonymous and you can opt out, the impact on your privacy is minimal.

Opting out. You can disable analytics at any time in Settings → Anonymous analytics. When disabled, the app sends no analytics events.

4. Information we do NOT collect

  • We do not require an account and do not collect your name, email, or contact info.
  • We do not use advertising or third-party marketing/tracking SDKs.
  • We do not collect precise location.
  • We do not sell, rent, or trade any data.

5. Sharing your content

Shape only shares your photos, images, or exported videos when you explicitly use the share or export feature. At that point the content is handed to the destination you choose (for example Messages, a social app, or your Photo Library) via your device’s standard sharing tools. How those third parties handle the content is governed by their own privacy policies.

6. Data retention

  • On-device data is kept until you delete it or uninstall the app.
  • Anonymous analytics are retained in aggregate on our self-hosted Umami instance for as long as needed to understand product trends. As the data is anonymous, it cannot be tied back to you or a specific device.

7. Security

On-device data is protected by your device’s standard security and sandboxing. Analytics are transmitted to our server over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect the limited, anonymous data we handle.

8. Children’s privacy

Shape is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. As the app stores personal content only on the device and collects no identifying analytics, this content never reaches us.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live (e.g. the EEA/UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object to certain processing.

  • The personal content in Shape lives on your device, so you can view, edit, and delete it directly in the app at any time.
  • The analytics we collect are anonymous and cannot be linked to you, so we are generally unable to identify, retrieve, or delete data about a specific individual.

10. International data transfers

Our analytics server is operated by us. If you access the app from outside the country where that server is located, anonymous analytics data may be processed in a different country. Because the data is anonymous, this poses minimal risk to you.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide notice in the app or on our website. Your continued use of Shape after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
